Some energy providers are also chipping in to help those most in need.

OVO has set aside £50 million for support schemes including free electric blankets and mattress toppers, payment ‘holidays’ and efficiency upgrades for customers who are most in need.

Octopus Energy is also offering 20,000 free electric blankets for people who are struggling with payments, claiming that a blanket ‘can save you £300 or more’.
